Public Library Appreciation Day - Jan 31 - Volunteers Needed

Greetings, SLIS students!
In years past, USC library students have assisted the SC Association of Public Library Adminstrators in our lobbying efforts at our annual SC Library Legislative Days. As a result of everyone working very hard, state aid for public libraries is finally back above the level that it was when the state sustained repeated budget cuts in the 90's. The help we received from volunteers helped make that possible, and we thank you for your support.
This year we are doing something a little bit different. We think it will be fun and exciting, and we need volunteers once again. We will be bringing public library supporters to the State House on Thursday, January 31st for the first ever Public Library Appreciation Day (PLAD). H.4397, a concurrent resolution officially recognizing the value of public libraries in SC, has passed in both the House and Senate, and we will be holding a press conference to publicize that event as well as thank our legislators for their support.
We are in need of about 8-12 volunteers on the morning of January 31st, from about 8:30am-11:00am. Volunteers will welcome supporters, escort groups to buildings on the statehouse grounds, and to serve as "ushers" at the front of the Blatt and Gressette buildings and the State House. Supporters will be wearing plaid crossed ribbons to show their support, so they should be easily identifiable to volunteers.
Please contact me if you would be interested in joining the fun and supporting SC public libraries or if have any questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much!
